The 37th Annual Conference of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Society will be held at the Northwest Square, 238 N Clara Ave., DeLand, FL 32720. The conference will take place Friday and Saturday, April 17-18, 2026.
Call for Papers
If you are interested in presenting at the conference, please submit your 1-2 page abstract to Dr. Ashley Lear (ashley.lear@erau.edu) by Oct. 15, 2025.
Topics related to Rawlings may include:
- Rawlings’ place in Modernist, American, and Southern Literature
- Her depictions of landscape, foodways, sex and gender roles, place, etc.
- The Yearling as a bildungsroman
- Ecocriticism and other themes found in her work
- Rawlings and Florida
- Her political attitudes and relationship with race
- Family, friends, publishers, and contemporaries of Rawlings
- Art and film, including adaptations, inspirations, etc.

Conference Details
There is a hotel block at a discounted rate for April 16-19, 2026, at the Courtyard DeLand Historic Downtown. Call the hotel (386-943-9500) to book the group rate by Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
The trustees dinner will take place on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
